Imagine two days full of folklore, culture, entertainment, and, above all, great food from top chefs. That’s exactly what the Olomoucké Tvarůžky Festival is like, filling the center of Olomouc with its aroma every April so that you can smell it from afar. This year, this open-air gastronomic festival is scheduled for the weekend of April 18 and 19 and will also celebrate 150 years of Olomouc tvarůžky production. You definitely want to be there!
Every April, you can spot Olomouc’s Upper and Lower Squares from afar. You’ll be guided by the distinctive smell of tvarůžky cheese, which is being celebrated for the ninth year running at the Olomoucké Tvarůžky Cheese Festival. This year also marks the 150th anniversary of the start of tvarůžky production in nearby Loštice. In addition to the traditionally rich program, you can also look forward to special birthday activities at the stand of A.W., the producer of Olomoucké Tvarůžky Cheese from Loštice. The company plans to distribute a symbolic 150 kilograms of tvarůžky in 100-gram packages to festival visitors over two days. Their stand will also feature a wall for birthday wishes and a stylish photo point.
Tvarůžky Cheese in dozens of ways
Salty, sweet, cold, and warm tvarůžky. In the form of desserts, spreads, dips, creams, as part of burgers, meat, pancakes, potato pancakes, pizza, soup, and sushi. And that’s not all. Every year, the Olomoucké Tvarůžky Cheese Festival offers “syrečky” in a variety of ways. This year, it will once again be prepared by Moravian restaurants and establishments that boast top-class cuisine and recommendations in the Gault&Millau Czechia guide. The tvarůžky merch stand will also feature original tvarůžky pralines, which you must not forget to try when visiting the festival.
Cultural program for the whole family
However, the Olomoucké Tvarůžky Cheese Festival attracts visitors not only with good food and tvarůžky cheese, but also with a varied accompanying program and cultural experiences on two stages. The Upper Square will host folklore ensembles such as the Hanácký mužský sbor Rovina male choir, the Hanácký národopisný soubor Olešnica folk ensemble, and the modern cimbalom band Cimballica. The main star will be the band Žlutý pes, and the popular Honza Mlčoch will also perform songs by Karel Gott, as will the multi-genre band Nedivoč. The program at Dolní náměstí will be focused on families with children. They will enjoy entertaining performances, fairy tales, and a juggling show. There will also be creative workshops and a demonstration of traditional tvarůžky cheese production.
Competition for those arriving by train
In cooperation with A.W. Olomoucké Tvarůžky Cheese, a competition is being organized again this year for everyone who comes to the Olomoucké Tvarůžky Cheese Festival by train. All you have to do is keep your ticket, show it at the information point at the main train station or at the information center on Horní náměstí, and fill out a raffle ticket. On both days of the festival, one winner will be drawn in the afternoon to receive vouchers worth a total of CZK 1,200 to purchase Olomoucké tvarůžky, and two other winners will receive practical gifts with the Olomoucké Tvarůžky Cheese Festival theme.
