Fall in Olomouc is like a soothing balm for the soul. Indian summer and colorful parks, where golden rays of sunlight filter through the trees. History comes alive in the city’s narrow streets, and Olomouc’s churches and cathedrals are transformed into concert halls. Fans of modern trends and design will also find something to enjoy here.
The Autumn Festival of Sacred Music has become an integral part of autumn in Olomouc and the city’s cultural life. Its 33rd edition will fill Olomouc’s churches and cathedrals with music at the turn of September and October. From September 20 to October 17, a total of eight concerts and one lecture are scheduled to take place at six venues.
Early October will be marked by the Olomouc Autumn Wine Festival, which, from October 2 to 3, will transform Olomouc’s Dolní náměstí into a showcase of the best Moravian wines. Burčák will take center stage, and an accompanying program is also being prepared.
The second week of October will bring the scent of another edition of the Flora Olomouc – Hortikomplex fall exhibition to the Olomouc Exhibition Grounds, featuring a showcase of the finest seasonal produce from local farmers, as well as plenty of tips and inspiration for gardens, patios, and balconies. Along with the fall Flora exhibition, you can, as is tradition, admire “Blooming Landmarks”—thematic floral installations—this year at Villa Primavesi, St. Michael’s Church, and the Chapel of the Body of Christ.
From Sunday, October 18, through Thursday, October 22, Olomouc will once again host the Prix Bohemia Radio International Radio Festival. The event will bring leading creators of radio plays, documentaries, reports, and podcasts to the city—not only from the Czech Republic but also from abroad.
On Wednesday, October 28, the city will host its now-traditional lantern parade to commemorate the founding of the independent Czechoslovak state. The parade will set off from Horní náměstí and head to Bezručovy sady, where a light trail will be set up—not just for children.
For the fourth time, November in the Haná metropolis will be dedicated to design in all its forms. Olomouc Design Days will once again offer a month-long program full of workshops, discussions, seminars, and lectures on design, architecture, fashion, and modern art. Of course, there will also be exhibitions and original installations in public spaces and in the storefronts of businesses in the city center.
On Wednesday, November 11, we’ll kick off this year’s St. Martin’s Day wine season at Horní náměstí. In addition to the wine, the St. Martin’s Day festivities will also feature burčák (young wine), a market with regional products and foods, and a cultural program.
