The second weekend in September was also dedicated to European Heritage Days in Olomouc. Starting on September 7, visitors could take part in guided tours and walks through the city. We celebrated the 100th anniversary of the construction and consecration of the South Slavic Mausoleum, which is one of the landmarks of Bezruč Park. The main program of celebrations kicked off with a Friday open-air concert on Horní náměstí. Titled “Opera and Ballet Highlights,” the concert showcased the best of the Moravian Theater and the Moravian Philharmonic. Ballet dancers performed on stage, the orchestra played well-known compositions, and the soloists included the phenomenal Eva Urbanová, Prague National Theater tenor Daniel Matoušek, and Jiří Přibyl, a soloist with the Olomouc Moravian Theater Opera.
The weekend of September 12 and 13 was primarily dedicated to historic sites. Some sixty of them opened their doors, allowing the public to once again visit places that often remain closed during the rest of the year. Many of them were accessible for free or at a discounted admission price, and an interesting accompanying program was also organized. The weekend also featured musical performances in unconventional venues—in churches, chapels, and gardens—and included a “Night of Music” under a Renaissance loggia.
