The city festival will feature a varied program and highlight the history of Olomouc

A historical parade, a church concert, dancing under the stars, an open-air concert, family-friendly activities, and the traditional sand sculpture in front of City Hall. This is what the City Festival will look like, as Olomouc commemorates its patron saint, St. Pauline. Once again this year, this traditional celebration will be combined with the International Choir Festival “Svátky písní,” so the program will also feature international guests. The Olomouc celebrations will take place on Friday, June 5, and Saturday, June 6.

The traditional historical procession honoring St. Pauline, the patron saint of Olomouc—who, according to legend, saved the city from a plague epidemic—will set out from Horní náměstí on Friday, June 5, at 6:00 p.m. The procession will conclude at St. Maurice Church, where a solemn Mass will be held. The service will also feature a concert by the Palm Beach Atlantic University Choir from the USA, which is visiting Olomouc as part of the Song Festival. In addition to representatives from Olomouc institutions, the university, and the military band, representatives from the sister city of Lucerne have also accepted the invitation to join the historic procession. The public is, of course, also invited to join the procession.

There will be dancing in the square again

Following last year’s premiere, the City Festival program will once again feature a dance evening under the starry sky, which was a huge success last year and had literally the entire square dancing. This year, it will once again be directed by Tomáš Komenda’s Dance Studio, and live music will be provided by the Panorama Band, which will perform a repertoire of songs by Czech and international stars. You can come dance on Friday, June 5, from 8 to 10 p.m. at Horní náměstí.

A program for children, city tours, and a closing open-air concert

Saturday, June 6, will be a special treat for families with children. Starting at 10 a.m. on Horní náměstí, they can look forward to various creative workshops, hands-on activities, and a bubble show. The Children and Youth Center and the Semafor Center will also be showcasing their programs. There will also be a fair featuring regional products, and you can take a photo at the flower photo booth to commemorate the day spent together. The Festival of Elementary Art Schools of the Olomouc Region will offer an all-day program spanning music, dance, and visual arts. Brass bands, jazz ensembles, and other musical groups will take turns performing on two stages at Horní náměstí. Guided city tours for both adults and children will also be available, and the corner of City Hall will be adorned with a sand sculpture, this time commemorating W. A. Mozart. The celebrations will culminate on the evening of Saturday, June 6, when Horní náměstí will come alive at 8:30 PM with an open-air concert titled “With the Stars of the North.” You can look forward to famous hits by ABBA, Roxette, and Nightwish performed by the Moravian Theatre Orchestra and the International Choir Festival “Svátky písní Olomouc.” Performers on stage will include the popular Natálie Tichánková with the group 4GOOD, the Ateneo UP Olomouc Mixed Chamber Choir, the Prague-based Lucky Voice Band, and vocalists from the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava. Tickets for 100 CZK are on sale at the Olomouc Information Center in the town hall arcade or online at vstupenky.olomouc.eu.
