Thanks to its location right in the centre of Moravia, Olomouc is easily accessible both by road and by train. From Prague, there is a fast connection via Brno, from Vienna you can also get there quickly and comfortably by road and partly by motorway. Olomouc can also be easily reached by car from Poland or Slovakia.
Olomouc is also an important railway junction with the main railway station close to the city centre. Passengers can take a plethora of fast trains, InterCity and EuroCity trains and passenger trains for regional transport. A fast and comfortable connection with Prague and Ostrava is provided by the modern Pendolino train, which transports you from Olomouc to Prague in just two and a half hours. A comfortable journey is also offered by the “yellow” trains of RegioJet.
Transportation in Olomouc itself is mostly covered by trams and buses, which have a dense network. They run throughout the week, and timetables are available at all public transport stops or can be purchased, like tickets, at the Transport Company’s sales point. Tickets are also available from vending machines, newsagents or public transport drivers. Holders of the Olomouc Region Card have free transport in the city.
Travelling by bus is in most cases less expensive than by train, and sometimes faster. For information on domestic and international connections, see www.idos.cz
