This year Olomouc celebrated the City Festival at the beginning of June. As always, first with a historical procession in honour of St. Pauline, the patron saint of Olomouc, which was officially closed with an organ concert in the Church of St. Moritz. On the next day, a programme was prepared in the Upper Square. It was in the spirit of tradition and old crafts and the town centre was transformed into a medieval village for a while. There were various performances on the stage, fairy tales for children and a breathtaking fire show in the evening. For the third year in a row, a sand sculpture was erected on the corner of the town hall as part of the Town Festival, this year for the first time accompanied by flowers. It represents an allegory of freedom and democracy and also commemorates three exceptional Olomouc women – Květoslava Bartonová, Erika Bednářová and Zdena Mašínová.
