In Olomouc this year we commemorate the 25th anniversary of the inscription of the Holy Trinity Column on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This baroque monument has therefore become the motif of the second Olomouc euro banknote. From the first of May you can buy it for 100 crowns at the Olomouc Information Centre in the arcade of the town hall. So when you go on holiday to Olomouc, stop by to pick it up as a souvenir.
The Olomouc collector’s euro banknote with a zero face value was issued in an edition of 5,000 pieces and this is the second Olomouc motif. The first euro banknote, which went on sale in May 2024, bore the motif of Olomouc’s Upper Square with its column and town hall. Its print run of 3,000 was sold out in less than a year.
The concept of euro banknotes has existed in Europe since 2015. Since 2018, some cities and major tourist destinations in the Czech Republic have actively joined the concept. The purpose of the euro banknotes is primarily to promote tourism and raise awareness of places of interest across Europe. At the same time, these original souvenirs have quickly become sought-after collectors’ items, as each piece is unique thanks to its numbering.
The euro banknote is made in France from 100% cotton paper used in the production of real banknotes and also contains some of the same security features as real banknotes – for example, a hologram, microprinting and UV protection. The reverse side of these collectible banknotes is uniform and commemorates the most important European monuments.
