A new city guide Filmová Olomouc offers visitors to Olomouc an unconventional and very attractive option. It clearly maps fifty corners where Doctor Zhivago, The Red Captain, The Three Musketeers, The Quartet and The Joke or the series Chetnik Humoresky and the TV series Detectives from the Holy Trinity were filmed. It is not only film fans who can walk in the footsteps of Keira Knightley, Sam Neill, Ivan Trojan, Barbara Poláková, Hana Vágnerová or Josef Somr.
“We wanted a city in the film where you could see and feel the ages and the times. Everything from the Romanesque style to the Baroque to today. Olomouc is one of the few cities that has all this,” explains director, screenwriter and actor Miroslav Krobot, who has shot in Olomouc several times.
During the tour, visitors will see the corners of Stínadla from the film The Riddle of the Headpiece come to life, and will be absorbed by the historical atmosphere of the centre, which was used by the creators of The Last Escape of Jerome of Prague or The Greatest of the Pierots. They will also succumb to the romantic reveries of the comedy I Love You Blue and smile at the memory of the comedy The Case of the Dead Dead Man.
“A lot of great things were filmed in Olomouc. Walking around the city, I still wondered why filmmakers don’t choose this location more often. There are beautiful corners here that aren’t spoiled by ubiquitous advertising or crowds of tourists, like in Prague,” adds Marek Mičke, the author of the Filmové políčko project, which publishes photos of shots from films set in real places.
