DrillFest 2024: first time in Olomouc
On the first Thursday in June, Olomouc’s Horní náměstí will host DrillFest 2024 – an international showcase of exhibition performances by honor guard units. The event is regularly held on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day and this year it is already its 17th year. In Olomouc, however, we will be able to enjoy it for the very first time. “Soldiers from the United States of America, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia will come to Horní náměstí to show their demonstration. Of course, the Honour Guard of the Czech Army and the Honour Guard of the President of the Slovak Republic will also perform,” said Lucie Rozbořilová, head of the department for the organisation of social events at the Olomouc City Hall, adding that the exhibition parade of the soldiers of the honour guards will start at 4 pm. However, even before the start of the parade, visitors can look forward to the performance of the Military Music Olomouc from 15:30 and during the parade also to the performance of majorettes or presentation stands of the Army of the Czech Republic.
Olomouc City Festival will commemorate the patron saint St. Pauline and traditional crafts
At the beginning of June, the city of Olomouc commemorates its history and patron saint St. Pavlína every year. This year will be no different. In addition to the traditional procession in her honour and an organ concert in the Church of St. Moritz, which is planned for Friday 7 June at 6 pm, this year for the first time the Olomouc City Festival will also include a show of old crafts and Haná folklore. “On Saturday, 8 June, Horní náměstí will be transformed into a small historical town where visitors will be able to recall, and above all try out, now forgotten crafts or taste medieval cuisine,” described Radim Schubert, head of the Culture Concept Department at the Olomouc City Hall. The programme on the Upper Square will also include fencing performances, a fire show, period music and theatre. So if you take your children with you, they will definitely not be bored, and you will still enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of the past together.
Summer Fridays at ease
Pop, rock, chanson, jazz and other musical genres will continue to resound through Horní náměstí this summer. In addition, the popular multi-genre music festival Evening Wellbeing at the Trinity, which kicks off holiday weekends in Olomouc, will celebrate its fifth anniversary this year. “The opening ceremony of the fifth edition of Evening Comfort at the Trinity will take place on 12 July. In cooperation with Radio Blaník, which is celebrating its 25th birthday, concerts by Tereza Mašková, Petr Kolář, Janek Ledecký and the Blaník band will play on this day,” said Lucie Rozbořilová. Cool Music Fridays will take place on Olomouc’s Horní náměstí until 23 August and will traditionally offer two concerts – at 19:00 and 20:30. You can look forward to Milan Peroutka with his band Perutě, Ilona Csáková, chanson performed by the Olomouc band La Boujeau or Spanish rhythms as part of the Colores Flamenco festival.
