The number of visitors staying in Olomouc surpassed the pre-Covid period for the first time. This is confirmed by statistics for the first half of this year. The number of staying guests increased by 37.4 percent and the number of overnight stays by 39.9 percent compared to 2022.

From the beginning of the year to the end of June, according to the Czech Statistical Office, a total of 108,163 guests stayed overnight in Olomouc hotels and guesthouses, of which 74,019 were from the Czech Republic and 34,144 from abroad, spending 210,624 nights in the city. “If we take a closer look at the number of overnight stays, the almost 40 per cent increase has certainly boosted the economy of accommodation facilities and not only accommodation establishments,” believes Viktor Tichák, Deputy Mayor for Tourism and Culture.

Moreover, the increase in the number of visitors to Olomouc was also higher than in the period before the pandemic. The number of guests staying in Olomouc increased by more than 10 percent and the number of overnight stays by 30 percent compared to 2019. The average length of overnight stays for staying guests has increased from 1.65 nights in 2019 to 1.95 nights in 2023. “Domestic tourists are currently contributing more to these numbers. Meanwhile, the foreign ones are 10 per cent less compared to before the pandemic. However, the loss is gradually decreasing,” explained Lucie Bartovská, head of the municipality’s tourism department.

Most foreign visitors to Olomouc in the first half of the year came from Slovakia, followed by Poland and Germany. Guests from Austria came in fourth place, followed by Ukrainians, Italians and Hungarians.
