Basic information
The Rosarium in the Botanic Garden of the Flora Olomouc Exhibition Centre was built in 1970 – 1972 on the initiative of Rosa Club from the Czech Gardening Association. On the area of 3.5 hectares, which formerly served as the city’s garbage disposal site, an unusual rose garden was laid out between strictly geometric concrete fields.
10,000 rose bushes with more than 670 domestic and international varieties are displayed here. There is not only an assortment of large-flowered roses, but also bright coloured orchard roses, climbing roses, ground cover roses and original botanical species in the Rosarium.
Visitors can admire the little known rose mallow (Hibiscus moschetos) with red, pink and white flowers with a diameter of up to 20 cm, exotic Amur cork trees (Phellodendron amurense) and the tulip tree (Liliodendron tulipifera) with leaves resembling tulips.
