Měšťanský dům U Zlatého jelena

Merchant's House “The Golden Deer“

Dolní náměstí, 779 00, Olomouc

Basic information

The house belongs to the collection of 15 privileged merchants’ houses called “Under wealthy shops”. We can find these being mentioned as early as 1362. The corner palace originated with the connection of two medieval residential plots. As a remainder of an old core there are Gothic and Renaissance cellars and also ground-floor rooms with a late Gothic reticulated comb vault from the 15th century. It is modified by one span of a High Gothic brick-built ribbed vault. Renaissance reconstruction enriched the building with a corner bay window. Later, the Baroque façade of the floors was rebuilt in the classicist style when another floor was built. The sign which gives the building its name came into being after 1739, when Tobias Hirsch owned the house.
