Mercury Fountain is considered the best of the collection of Baroque fountains in terms of artistic quality. The statue of the classical patron of merchants Mercury holding a caduceus in his right hand – one of his attributes – ranks among the greatest works of Phillip Sattler. The artistic rendering, in particular the dynamism of the figure with fluttering drapery, recalls the influence of the work of the leading representative of the Roman high Baroque – Gianlorenzo Bernini.
The authors additionally masterfully incorporated the fountain into the space of the busy crossroads.
