Basic information
The nature reserve Litovelské Pomoraví covers an area of 96 km2. It occupies a narrow 3-8 km wide strip of floodplain forests and meadows along the Morava River between the towns of Olomouc and Mohelnice. In the centre of the area lies the ancient city of Litovel, from which the protected area has derived its name. The entire reserve lies within the Olomouc district. The mission of this protected landscape area is to provide increased protection and environmentally friendly landscape management of valuable Morava river floodplains.
The core of the nature reserve and the main natural phenomenon of the area is the ”inland river delta” – a naturally meandering course of the Morava River with a complex system of permanent and temporary river arms with adjacent flood-plane forests, wet alluvial meadows and wetlands. Třesín, a karst area with well-known publicly accessible caves, and Doubrava, an area of deciduous forests, are also part of the nature reserve. Cycling fans can take advantage of the diverse network of bike paths leading through the entire area of Litovelské Pomoraví.
