Basic information
The Art Centre of the Palacky University is housed in a Baroque building of the former Jesuit Convent. Five fine art departments use the unique renovated rooms of this historic monument. In addition to lecture rooms and studios, there are also theater, film and exhibition spaces available in the attic.
The Chapel of Corpus Christi is part of the Convent. It is one of the most valuable Baroque church interiors in Moravia, with rich painting and sculptural decorations. The ceiling fresco is the work of the Olomouc Baroque sculptor Jan Kryštof Handke and shows the legend of Jaroslav of Šternberk’s victory over the Tatars in the battle of Olomouc in 1241.Three monumental allegorical statues – Life, Love and Faith – were created by sculptor Philip Sattler.
