Basic information
The Helfštýn Castle is located just about 35 km from Olomouc. Its location on a hill in a wooded landscape recalls a medieval seat hidden from civilization. It is one of the largest castles in Central Europe. The castle was gradually improved and fortified and was never conquered. Since the 19th century, the castle has been presented as a tourist and historically significant building. Today the castle serves as a cultural center of the region and a well-known international gathering place of blacksmiths called “Hefaiston” with a permanent exhibition. In order to turn Helfštýn castle into a world-renowned center of blacksmith’s craft, much restoration work is going on there. Wide surroundings can be seen from a lookout terrace on the third courtyard. Cultural and social events are held on the castle grounds throughout the whole season
