Unique exhibition presents street art and graffiti scene

8. 8. 2022 | Pavel Snášel

A unique exhibition will present the Olomouc street art and graffiti scene of the last three decades. From 8 to 27 August, Olomouc residents and visitors can visit a retrospective exhibition entitled City as Temple, Graffiti as Scripture. Admission to the exhibition is free.

The exhibition traces the era of graffiti and street art of the last thirty years in Olomouc and presents the work of artists such as MuDr.Pudr & Crazy Crime and the BFAM crew.

“The title of the exhibition may seem a bit controversial, but it is very apt. What the temple is to the believer, the city is to the spray painter and artist. And although temples are guarded, they do not escape desecration from time to time, just like streets or houses,” says Romana Junkerová, the curator of the exhibition and the organizer of the Street Art Festival. The peak era of street art in Olomouc can be considered to be the plastic black cats, but the exhibition will also recall the polystyrene balloons and George W. Bush posters, which were a reaction to the global events after September 11, 2001.

“The development of street art in Olomouc was also influenced by the scene in Prague, Pasta Oner and the Pop Life magazine published between 1994 and 2001, original copies of which can also be seen at the exhibition. The graffiti and street art scene naturally intertwined, often the same artists were creating graffiti and street art, and new crews appeared like mushrooms after the rain,” says the exhibition curator.

In addition to the demise of the military complex on Velkomoravská Street, the exhibition also shows the contemporary appearance of Olomouc. The exhibition takes place in Studio G21 on Dolní náměstí.

It is also possible to visit guided tours of the city, where visitors will be shown street art directly in the streets of the city. The tours will take place on 18 and 25 August and the price is 150 CZK per person.
