Olomouc’s carnival revelry will be full of traditions, flavours and fun

Olomouc’s carnival revelry will begin at 10 a.m. with the traditional handing over of the carnival law to the chase, which will then set off in a procession around the square. A similar procession will then go past the town hall at noon and at 1:30. So, even if you come to the Olomouc Mardi Gras celebrations later, you can still enjoy the joyful procession of masks and the parade during the day.

Programme for all

The programme of the Olomouc Carnival is designed for adults and children alike. You can look forward to folk songs, carnival jokes and in the afternoon also to the performance of the modern dulcimer band Cimbal Hell Band. Their combination of dulcimer, bass guitar, violin and electric mandolin promises a musical experience you won’t hear right away. And the kids won’t be bored either. Not only will they enjoy a fun-filled mask parade, but there will also be fun activities, farm animals, even a camel, and a fairy tale in the afternoon.

A decorated square with a photo booth

This year’s Olomouc Mardi Gras celebrations will also feature themed decorations from the Flora Olomouc Exhibition Centre. This year, this tradition will be repeated for the fourth time. Just like last year, it will be complemented by a photo booth, so you will be able to take away a nice memory from the day spent with friends or family in the form of a group photo. The decorations on Horní náměstí will remind you of the Olomouc carnival merrymaking at least until the end of February.

Regional fair and meat specialties

Cakes, kremrole, patés, jams and various handicraft products will be offered by the carnival fair with two dozen vendors. Refreshments, including sweet and savoury desserts and drinks, will be provided by Olomouc restaurants. Their offer will include meat specialties and you can also look forward to honest products from butchers and smokers.
