Olomouc Carnival invites you to folklore, fair and ice photopoint

A parade and a masquerade, a fair full of carnival and carnival specialties and performances by folklore groups. In addition, there are themed straw decorations, carriage rides and, new this year, an original ice photopoint. This is just a fraction of what you can look forward to in the centre of Olomouc on the last Saturday in January, 27 January from 9 am to 4 pm.

It will be traditionally opened by performances of folklore groups. There will also be a juggling and fire show and the square will be enlivened by entertainers on stilts. You will be able to have your portrait drawn by a caricaturist, the Olomouc Zoo will bring pets for the children and, as in previous years, there will be a horse-drawn carriage ride. If you want to enjoy the carnival to the fullest, join the parade of masks or dance with a bear. And if you come in a mask, there will be a sweet reward waiting for you.

Fair with dozens of vendors

The carnival fair promises more than thirty vendors, including well-known Olomouc restaurants with their specialties. Four butchers and sausage shops will offer their honest products, but cheese, patés, various syrups, sweet and savoury desserts will also be available. “Original desserts will be brought by the Tvarůžková pastry shop, there will be tubes from Svatý Kopeček, cakes and homemade marmalades and typical carnival products, especially from small producers and farmers,” added Karin Vykydalová, head of the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Olomouc City Hall. The carnival fair will also offer hot drinks to warm up, as well as beer, wine and mead. However, the list certainly does not end there. Come and see for yourself.

Thematic decoration and original ice photo-point

For the third year, Olomouc’s Horní náměstí will be thematically decorated with straw decorations from the Flora Olomouc Exhibition Centre during the carnival. This year, for the first time, the decorations will also include an original ice photo point where you will be able to take a photo and have a nice memory of the Olomouc carnival. The straw decorations will be on display in the city centre until the end of the carnival season, which this year is on 13 February. The cheerful atmosphere of the whole day will also be complemented by the popular performance of the bottle maker.
