International Guides Day in Olomouc

Olomouc joins the International Guides’ Day this year as well. On this occasion, the Olomouc Information Centre has prepared several guided tours for Saturday, 24 February. Those interested will have the opportunity to see the Olomouc Town Hall, including its 75-metre high tower, and the Festive Fresco Hall of the Komenium School of Education for free. Local guide Tomáš Kryl has also prepared a tour of Olomouc for Sunday 25 February.

Tour of the fresco hall

The Ceremonial Hall of the Komenium School is a hidden gem of Olomouc, which has rightly earned the name “Olomouc’s Sistine Chapel”. Come and see it and be enchanted by its beautiful decoration in the style of Neo-Renaissance decorativism with elements of Baroque illusionism. It will take your breath away!
The tour starts at 10:00 and 14:00 at the Olomouc Information Centre and lasts about 45 minutes.

Tour of the Olomouc Town Hall with a climb up the tower

Get to know the interior of the Olomouc Town Hall, which has been a symbol of the economic and political importance of the former royal capital for six centuries. With a guide, you will also have a look inside the Gothic Chapel of St. Jerome, and at the end you will climb the 75-metre high Town Hall Tower, from which you will have Olomouc in the palm of your hand.
The tour starts at 11:00 and 15:00 at the Olomouc Information Centre and lasts about 30 minutes.

Olomouc with a guide

Olomouc, as an important centre of the Great Moravian Empire, the seat of the city of the ruling Přemyslid princes and the ecclesiastical capital of Moravia, will be introduced to those interested by the Olomouc guide Tomáš Kryl. At the same time, he will commemorate the expected 550th anniversary of the beginning of the late Gothic reconstruction of the Olomouc town hall and the 505th anniversary of the first mention of the town hall clock. The tour is free of charge and will take place on Sunday, 25 February at 10:00 and 14:00 at the model of the city on Horní náměstí. Due to limited capacity, advance reservations are required by emailing tomas.kryl@email.cz.

International Parade Day falls on 21 February each year and the accompanying programme usually takes place on the weekend closest to that day.
