Autumn weather can sometimes be unpredictable. Indian summer alternates with rain and gray skies. Birdsong silences the long evenings and foggy mornings. But in Olomouc, we know how to make even gloomy autumn days colorful and full of experiences. Art and culture lovers, as well as passionate gardeners and wine enthusiasts, will find something to their liking among the events planned here until the end of November.
Flood of autumn flowers
October will once again kick off the autumn season of the Flora Olomouc – Hortikomplex flower exhibitions in Olomouc, and with it, the city’s monuments will bloom once more. This time, you can come and admire the floral arrangements at St. Maurice Church, Villa Primavesi, and the Church of the Annunciation from October 2 to 12. Guided tours will also be held on selected dates.
The church as a concert hall
From September to October, churches in Olomouc and elsewhere will be transformed into concert halls offering unique experiences. This year marks the 32nd edition of the Autumn Festival of Sacred Music, which offers nine wonderful concerts. Come and see what it looks like when music fills the Komenium ceremonial hall, St. Wenceslas Cathedral, the Red Church, or the Church of Our Lady of the Snows.
For a glass of wine in Olomouc
In October and November, all wine lovers will find something to enjoy in Olomouc. On October 3 and 4, the traditional autumn Wine Festival will take place on Dolní náměstí, featuring a showcase of thirty Moravian wineries, a competition for the King of Burčák, and a rich accompanying program. On Saturday, November 8, we will enjoy St. Martin’s Day in Olomouc together, both at Horní náměstí and at the summer cinema.
Design in all its forms. For the third time!
For the third year in a row, Olomouc will become a place of design and inspiration in November. Olomouc Design Days will once again offer dozens of events that are open to everyone. It will kick off on November 1 with the opening of an exhibition presenting a cross-section of Olomouc graphic design, not only by contemporary designers. The popular Open Studios will also be back, offering a glimpse into the work of talented creators. On the last Saturday in November, don’t miss another edition of the Maker Faire festival of creativity and inventions at the Flora Olomouc Exhibition Center. Throughout the month, there will also be a number of interesting workshops for children and young people, organized by the Children and Youth Center in Olomouc, Sedmička Moravského divadla, Geniátor in Hlubočky, and the Zlatá velryba bookstore.
Romantic streets and colorful parks
Do you love warm autumn and Indian summer? We do! Mainly because of the walks in Olomouc’s parks and city streets. Čechovy, Smetanovy sady, and Bezručovy sady parks, which surround Olomouc, are beautiful in every season, but when the rays of the autumn sun shine through the orange-yellow leaves, it is truly magnificent. Come and see for yourself. You can walk along the side paths of the parks for days and still discover new places and views that will take your breath away. And what about when the autumn sun shines into the historic streets of the city? The atmosphere of bygone times immediately returns, engulfing you so much that you will find it difficult to leave.
