Weather
Temperatures
The coldest month is January (average temperature -3,4 °C), the warmest is July (average temperature 20,2 °C). The highest summer temperatures range up to 32 °C, while in winter they drop to -18 °C. Cold days are to be expected from mid-October until the last decade of April.
Precipitation
June is the month with the most precipitation (with average precipitation of 78, 5 mm), the dryest month is February (25, 5 mm). Snow can be expected from mid-November until early April, the average snow depth shall not exceed 20 cm.
Air quality
The air quality in the city is generally favorable and is slightly deteriorated by transport emissions especially in the winter months during temperature inversions. Summer episodes of elevated concentrations of ground-level ozone occur only rarely and do not last for long.
The lowland of the Haná region, in whose centre Olomouc is located, is one of the warmest areas in the country. The climate is very pleasant without dramatic shifts in temperature.
In spring and autumn daytime temperatures are usually between 15-20 °C and in summer at about 25 °C, days with temperatures around 30 °C are quite common as well.
The coldest winter month is January with an average temperature of -1 to -4 °C. It snows a few times during the winter and temperatures below -10 ° C are recorded occasionally.
For a summer visit to Olomouc, we recommend to bring shorts and a T-shirt. Pack a light sweater for an evening in a garden restaurant. In winter you certainly cannot go wrong with a warm padded winter jacket and waterproof shoes. Spring and autumn months in Olomouc are usually sunny; nevertheless, do not forget to take a wind anorak and an umbrella with you.
